Humpty Dumpty and the U.S. Economy!

This nursery rhyme describes perfectly the economic collapse that we are facing globally, having its beginnings in the United States. Those who do not have vested interests in this problem are following the daily actions to try and "kick start" the economy. Our leaders refuse to admit the problem can't be fixed by trying to get the Babylonian system working again. What is the charge against the Babylonian system? INTEREST!

Interest has tended to transfer money to the hands of the few, impoverishing and enslaving the people who must "work" for a living. These same bankers, who have driven the banks into bankruptcy, have accumulated vast personal fortunes. And the supreme irony is that the banks are considered "too big" to fail and $750 BILLION was made available to replenish their balance sheets.

Of course, this was intended to help the banks to deal with the "off-balance sheet assets" which were nothing more than worthless paper. They are called derivatives. The general consensus seems to be that derivatives are profitable instruments while the economy is growing but this is not the case. We are trapped in a downward spiral. It should be noted that derivatives exceeded the total of the world's gross product, an outrageous abuse of ordinary financial prudence. Now, the intent for the bail-out money has been revised and it largely remains with the Federal Reserve Bank, a private bank which has been controlling the country's monetary policy, through establishing interest rates.

I have always found this policy fascinating. To bring down inflation, one increases interest rates adding cost to borrowings which are needed to finance business requirements for cash. According to the theory, this increase in costs will cool the economy which will reduce inflation. But higher costs ARE inflationary! In my mind, this theory, meant to justify interest, is a total failure! Consider this: my father built a house in 1941 for a family of four which cost $4,000.00; my house, also for a family of four has been assessed at $400,000.00 in the year 2008! That represents astronomical inflation. How can a young couple starting out ever hope to buy such a home from one wage, or even two wages? That is one trend which is destroying our society!

As I mentioned, businesses are required to borrow cash from time to time to manage the cash flow in the business. But we are living in a "credit crunch." This means that banks that grease the wheels of industry with cash loans are not doing so, even though the US government made $750 billion available. Why is that? Its because the banks need the money to discharge the derivative contracts which are lurking for settlement just off the balance sheet. (As an accountant, I must admit that I cannot understand off-balance sheet assets and how they were audit sanctioned; I know of no instance of this when I was practicing my profession.) I would like to present a quote under a website called the automatic earth. It is the last paragraph of a discourse on to-day's problems, as follows:

The Bible addresses this problem to the LORD's people. I quote from Revelation 18:2-4, "And the angel cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. For all nations have drunk of the wine of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies. And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, COME OUT OF HER MY PEOPLE, THAT YE BE NOT PARTAKERS OF HER SINS, AND THAT YE RECEIVE NOT OF HER PLAGUES."

Well, it looks like her plagues are starting now. London and New York are the financial capitals of the world and the following quote from Revelation 18:15-18, causes me to think of New York because it is located on the coast, being a major sea-port:

"The merchants of these things (the fruits that thy soul lusted after) which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing; And saying, Alas, alas, that great city which was clothed in fine linen, and purple and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones and pearls! For in one hour so great riches is come to naught. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea stood afar off, and cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city?"

And then in verse 20, "Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her." This picture of desolation is not pretty!

"COME OUT OF HER MY PEOPLE!!" So how might this be done? Well, I suppose the wiser heads would say we could start by imprisoning all the bankers and captains of industry who have treated our society with fraud and immoral business practices. Still, a better way is that we must repent and ask the LORD's help and forgiveness. This can be done with assurance that YEHOVAH God will act for His people. Read the assurance in II Chronicles 7:14, "If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then, I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

We do not need to spend trillions of dollars (which we do not have) to revive the Babylonian system which is collapsing. We need to fall on our knees! We need leaders that will call for a day of national prayer and we need it now!
